"Pentade I"
"Errata."--Volume 5, page 288. Dated: New York, 14 Dec. 1814
The 1st edition of v. 1 was printed in four parts in 1812. "The first edition of the first volume of this collection was printed, in four numbers, in 1812. A variety of circumstances ... has retarded the completion of this series ... It is now thought adviseable not to continue a division of the work into numbers ... It having been occasionally suggested, in the first volume of this collection, that its author was preparing a history of the state of New-Jersey, it is deemed proper here to add, that he has abandoned that work for want of encouragement. New-York, 20 June, 1814"--Volume 2, page [5]
"P.S. From the kindly suggestions of my worthy literary friends who have examined this work, I have been led to conclude on preparing and publishing, some time hence, Deo volente, another series of five volumes. Those, who feel sufficient interest in this novel kind of publication to communicate any documents to aid in making the second pentade, will please to forward the same, free of postage, to the care of John W. Francis, M.D. in the city of New-York, or to me at Meadville, Pennsylvania, in the vicinity of which I expect shortly to settle. Timothy Alden. Timothy Allen, New-York, 52 White-Street."-- 8 pages at end of v. 5
