Seller: Books to Give ~ Books to Love®, Alexandria, VA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. The Garnier Frères publishing house produced many versions of Molière's collected works over the years after it was established in 1833. This one, published in 1921, is a three-volume set, quarter-bound in dark-red morocco over red marbled boards, with contrasting green marbled endpapers. The spine has five false raised bands, each with a line of gold tooling, and the title and volume number is tooled in gold in two sections between the first and second bands; gold tooled floral decorations are in each of the other sections. There are a few penciled notes in volumes one and two, but otherwise the pages are remarkable free of marks, stains and tears for books of this age. The bindings show shelf wear on all edges and bumping on the corners, but are tight and hold the pages quite well. Each volume is between 500 and 600 pages. These are good reading copies that will look very nice on any shelf. Complete three-volume set.
