DOUBLE RULE OF THREE, OR COMPOUND PROPORTION.

1. If 24 men can reap 76 acres in 6 days, how many men will reap 114 acres in 9 days?

2. If 4 loads of hay will serve 6 horses for 8 weeks, how long will 5 loads serve 12 horses?

3. If a man can travel 360 miles in 12 days, of 8 hours each: how many hours a day must he walk at the same rate, to complete 450 miles in 20 days?

4. If 17 horses plough 2023 acres in 7 days, how many acres will 102 horses plough in 4 days?

5.-If 11 men in 3 weeks earn £66, in what time will 33 men earn £22 ? 6. If 8 horses eat 48 bushels of corn in 21 days, in how many days will 7 horses eat 66 bushels ?

7.-If the expense of 6 workmen, for 21 weeks, amount to £120: what will be the expense of 14 workmen for 46 weeks, at the same rate?

8.-How many days, of 15 hours each, would 60 men take to perform a piece of work in, when 45 men can do the same in 30 days of 12 hours each?

18.-How many hours a day, for 7 days, will 6 men have to work in order to complete the building of a wall 280 yds. long and 6 yds. high, if a wall 275 yds. long and 16 ft. high require 4 men to work 11 hours a day for 5 days?

22.-If 10 horses require as much corn as 16 ponies, and 24 ponies eat 30 qrs. in 32 days; how many horses may be kept for 30 days for £41·25, when corn is 2.75s. a bushel?

23. A contractor engages to make a road 44 miles long, in 150 days, but after employing 120 men upon it for 130 days, he finds that only 3 miles are completed: how many extra men must he employ in order to complete his contract?

24. A contractor agrees to execute a certain piece of work in a certain time. He employs 45 men, who work 9 hours daily. When '6 of the time is expired, he finds that only 6 of the work is done: how many must he employ during the remaining part of the time, working 10 hours daily, in order that he may fulfil his contract?

25.-If £ be worth of a sheep, and of a sheep be worth of an ox, how much must be given for 100 oxen ?

26. If 12 oxen be worth 29 sheep, 15 sheep worth 25 hogs, 17 hogs worth 3 loads of wheat, and 8 loads of wheat worth 13 loads of barley: how many loads of barley must be given for 20 oxen ?
