1) Tema - basahing mabuti ang tema, pokus o topic ng sanaysay na hinihingi ng pagsusulit. Ito ba ay tungkol sa iyong sarili, opinyon o puna, , isang paglalarawan, reaksyon sa isang nabasa, atbp?
) Pamagat o Titulo ng Sanaysay - dapat ay may kinalaman ito sa tema ng isusulat; hindi dapat napakahaba, iwasan ang pamagat na patanong at kailangang nakakapukaw ng kalooban
3) Talata - isang punto o diwa, isang talata. Huwag pagsama-samahin sa iisang talata o paragraph ang mga isusulat. Ang mga talata ay dapat magkakaugnay. Iwasan din ang masyadong mahabang talata na paulit-ulit naman ang laman.
4) Punto - Dapat malinaw ang iyong punto o thesis sentence. Ano ba ang gusto mong palabasin? Iakma rito ang iyong mga sasabihin.
5) Balangkas o Outline - kung mahaba ang oras, gumawa ng maikling outline para alam mo ang isusulat sa bawat talata.
6) Panimula, Katawan at Wakas - Ang sanaysay ay karaniwang may panimulang talata, katawan at wakas o konklusyon. Sa body o katawan ng sanaysay, dito ipinahihiwatig ang pinakapunto ng sanaysay, ang maliliit na detalye ng punto at ang paglalarawan o masusing pagbusisi ng maliliit na detalye.
7) Tono - tiyakin ang tono ng iyong isusulat. Ito ba ay nasa unang katauhan (ako)? Ikaw ba ay isang magulang, pulitiko, guro? Ito ay mahalaga upang maipaliwanag mo ng mahusay ang inyong punto de vista (point of view).
8) Tamang gramatika at mga pananda - mas malaki ang puntos kung tama ang grammar o gramatika ng sanaysay. Dapat ay wasto ang mga pananda (tuldok, kuwit, pananong, tutuldok, atbp)
9) Tapusin ang sanaysay - huwag ibitin ang mambabasa. Dapat itong may konklusyon o wakas.
