THE following Work was undertaken with a view of illustrating the importance of Analytical Geometry, as a Method of Investigation. The Author was further encouraged in the prosecution of the design thus commenced, by the hope of being able to treat some parts of the subject in a simpler manner than had been previously done. How far he may have succeeded in this secondary object, it must be left to others to decide; his principal end, however, will have been attained, if his.
